Supporting Employees in Balancing Childcare and Work Schedules
School is in session and you need to know: do you have to adjust employee work schedules based on their childcare needs? Does this sound familiar? “I need to pick up my child from school starting next week - I need to leave early. Can we look at adjusting my schedule?” This is a common issue amongst pretty much all practice owners and managers, especially when school is starting up in the fall, and then when kids’ schedules change over the summer. Your employee comes to you and says they need to adjust their work schedule to adjust for childcare.…

EFFECTIVE TODAY: Exempt Employees Must Now Be Paid a Higher Minimum Salary
As of today, July 1, 2024, all salaried exempt employees must be paid at least $43,888 per year (equivalent to $844 per week). This is the result of an increase set by the Department of Labor. This increase has been subject to litigation, but no legal change has prevented the increase from going into effect. You may see in the news that a Texas lawsuit was successful in getting an injunction against this law. While this is true, the impact is extremely limited and does not impact any CEDR members. A court stopped the salary increase from going into effect…

First Glimpses at States Regulating AI in HR
Paul Edwards, CEDR CEO & Founder, here. For anyone who was paying attention, from the late 1990s into the early 2000s, a company called Google managed to position itself unregulated so that it could collect and sell the data of every human being on earth. Honestly, few, if any, of us understood how invasive data collection would be or the value of that data. More companies jumped on board and started collecting data. The United States has still done little to nothing to limit how many of our tech companies abuse their power, how often they lose control of the…
